  • General Introduction
    • The Shaanxi History Museum is located at No. 91 Xiaozhai East Road, Yanta District, Xi'an City. It is regarded as 'the pearl of the ancient city and treasury of the Huaxia civilization'. As a national first-class museum, it is an important place to showcase Shaanxi's historical culture and ancient Chinese civilization13.
    • The museum houses a vast collection of over 1.7 million items (sets), with a time span of more than one million years. The collections are not only numerous and diverse but also of high quality and great value13.

  • Opening Hours and Tickets
    • Opening Hours: From March 15th to November 14th, it is open from 08:30 to 18:00. From November 15th to March 14th of the following year, it is open from 09:00 to 17:30. The museum is closed all day on Mondays for refurbishment (except national legal holidays)35.

  • Main Exhibitions
    • Permanent Exhibition - "Ancient Civilization of Shaanxi": This exhibition uses more than 3,000 cultural relics to display the development process of Shaanxi from the early Paleolithic Age's Lantian Man to the Opium War, covering a span of more than one million years. It is divided into seven stages, including "Cradle of Civilization", "Glorious Zhou Dynasty", "Eastern Empire", "Mighty Han Dynasty", "Conflict and Integration", "Flourishing Tang Dynasty", and "Long-lasting Context", highlighting the important status of Shaanxi in Chinese history1.
    • Special Exhibition - "Treasures of the Great Tang Dynasty": Located in the fifth exhibition hall on the left side of the first floor. It mainly showcases the cultural relics unearthed from the Hejia Village 窖藏 in Xi'an in 1970. The most valuable items are the large number of gold and silver wares, as well as a large number of coins and a complete set of medical tools and various medications1.
    • Thematic Exhibition - "Tang Dynasty Mural Paintings Treasures Exhibition": In the thematic exhibition hall on the right side of the first floor. There are nearly 600 mural paintings from more than 20 Tang Dynasty tombs, which are precious collections. These murals depict the etiquette norms, living customs, clothing features, entertainment methods, and architectural styles of the time, providing important visual materials for studying the social life of the Tang Dynasty, especially the life of the aristocracy.

  • Transportation
    • By Subway: You can take Metro Line 3 or 4 to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda Station and walk west along Xiaozhai East Road for about 10 minutes; or take Metro Line 2 or 3 to the Xiaozhai Station and walk east along Xiaozhai East Road for about 7 to 8 minutes.
    • By Bus: You can take buses such as No. 5, 19, 24, 26, 30, 400, etc., and get off at the Shaanxi History Museum Station.
    • By Car: If you drive, you can enter the parking lot from the southwest corner of the museum.

 

  • Precautions
    • As the museum is very popular, it is advisable to make a reservation in advance to avoid long waiting times.
    • Inside the museum, please respect the cultural relics and the environment. Do not touch or damage the exhibits.
    • Follow the instructions of the staff and maintain good order during the visit.
