It is like the "stomach" of the "ox-shaped" Hongcun Village. This is a very iconic place in Hongcun, and many films related to Hongcun have scenes taken here. It is especially beautiful in the morning or at dusk when the sunlight casts a mysterious glow on the water.
- Chengzhi Hall: As the largest ancestral hall in the village, it is located in the center. It was built around 1855 and is beautifully decorated with intricate wood carvings and paintings, showing the excellent craftsmanship of traditional Anhui architecture. There are a total of 60 or so rooms arranged around nine patios1.
- Shuiren Hall: It is a representative of the traditional architecture in Hongcun, showing the unique style and charm of Huizhou architecture. The hall is a good place to learn about the local history and culture.
- Ancient Alleys and Streets: The village has narrow alleyways and winding streets, allowing you to stroll and appreciate the traditional architecture and peaceful atmosphere. The white walls and black tiles of the ancient houses, along with the unique water system flowing through the village, create a beautiful and tranquil picture.
