Green Lake (Cuihu Park) 滇池(翠湖公园)Travel Guide

Introduction

Green Lake, also known as Cuihu Park, is a beautiful and significant park in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. It is located at 67 South Cuihu Road, Wuhua District, Kunming, at the foot of Luofeng Mountain and opposite the main entrance of Yunnan University1. It used to be a bay of Dianchi Lake but became an independent lake due to the decrease in the water level of Dianchi. The park is like a "jade in the city" and is a wonderful place for locals and tourists to relax and enjoy the scenery12.

Highlights

  1. Scenic Views: The park features clear water, lush green trees, and pavilions reflected in the lake, creating a picturesque scene5. The willows by the lake and the lotus flowers in the water add to the beauty of the park, especially in summer when the lotus blooms are in full swing2.
  2. Historic Architecture: There are many ancient buildings and pavilions in the park, such as the Mid-Lake Pavilion (also known as Biyiting), the Lotus Temple, and the Fish Viewing Pavilion. These architectures have high artistic value and reflect the historical and cultural traditions of Kunming.
  3. Red-Billed Gulls: Every year from October to the next March, a large number of red-billed gulls migrate from the north to spend the winter in Cuihu Park. The sight of thousands of gulls playing, frolicking, and competing for food is a magnificent spectacle and a major attraction for tourists23.
