1. Scenic Views along the Lake: The shores of Erhai Lake are dotted with fishing villages, Bai farming villages, ancient temples, and historic towns. The reflection of the Cangshan Mountains in the lake is a breathtaking sight, especially on a clear day. The gentle breeze makes the lake surface ripple, and the sunlight shimmers on the water, creating a very charming view.
2. Shuanglang Town: Located on the northeast shore of Erhai Lake, Shuanglang Town is a popular destination. It features bluestone walls, stone roads, and narrow alleys. The town is full of lively shops. Yuji Island and Nanzhao Folk Island are the main attractions here, offering beautiful sunset views.
3. Xizhou Town: On the west shore of Erhai Lake, Xizhou Town is known for its traditional Bai houses. It is quieter compared to Dali Old Town. You can explore local snacks like Xizhou Baba (Dali-style pancakes) and look for souvenirs here.
4. Wase Village: On the east shore of Erhai Lake, Wase Village is a beautiful small fishing village. It retains many Bai-style ancient gate towers built in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China era. Staying in a lake-view room in Wase Village is a great choice if you prefer a quiet atmosphere.
5. Small Putuo Island: By the east shore of Erhai Lake, this tiny island is said to be a seal sent by Guanyin (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy) to control the wind and waves and protect fishermen. There is a Guanyin Pavilion on the island. Every winter, it is one of the best places to watch black-headed gulls from Siberia fly in to spend the winter.
6. Haidong Town: A small town of the Bai ethnicity, Haidong is where the villagers make a living from fishing. Along its 19-km southeast lake shoreline are three shallow bays and two islands. Jinsuo Island, the largest island on Erhai Lake, and the Luo Quan Peninsula in the north bay offer excellent views of Erhai Lake and Cangshan.

How to Get There

3. By Bus: There are regular buses from major cities in Yunnan Province to Dali City. Once you arrive in Dali City, you can transfer to a local bus or a taxi to go to Erhai Lake.
