China Central Television Spring Festival Gala mascot 2025 Year of the Snake ——"Sì Shēngshēng" (巳升升)
The mascot for the 2025 Chinese New Year's Eve Gala, also known as the Spring Festival Gala, organized by China Media Group (CMG), is named "Sì Shēngshēng" (巳升升). This mascot draws deep inspiration from traditional Chinese culture and is designed to embody the spirit of the Year of the Snake. Its overall shape is inspired by the ancient oracle bone script character “巳” (Sì), which represents the snake, making it both endearing and full of ancient charm.
Design Features:
- Color Scheme: The primary color of “Sì Shēngshēng” is a vibrant greenish-blue, symbolizing the freshness and vitality of spring. This choice of color reflects traditional Chinese hues such as Parrot Green, Quality Green, Peacock Blue, Lapis Lazuli, Lotus White, Tangerine Yellow, and Dragon Candle Red.
- Head Design: The head outline and spiral patterns on the cheeks are derived from the silver gilt ru yi (如意, a traditional Chinese symbol for good fortune) unearthed from the Tang Dynasty underground palace at Famen Temple in Fufeng, Shaanxi. These elements convey wishes for abundant blessings.
- Facial Features: The eyebrows and eyes are inspired by the feather patterns and “minister” eyes found on bronze snake-shaped artifacts excavated from the Sanxingdui site in Guanghan, Sichuan. These motifs are also widely seen on bronze and jade artifacts from central China, showcasing the rich diversity and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization.
- Body Decorations: The back features intricate vine patterns crafted using cloisonné technique, symbolizing continuity and vitality. The body is adorned with patterns of magnolias, peach blossoms, and peonies, created using filigree inlay craftsmanship, symbolizing the return of spring.
Cultural Significance:
The design of “Sì Shēngshēng” not only aims for aesthetic appeal but also carries profound cultural meanings. It embodies the theme of the 2025 Spring Festival Gala, “Sì Sì Rúyì, Shēng Shēng Bùxī” (巳巳如意,生生不息), which translates to “Wishing All Good Fortune and Continuity of Life.” Through its design, “Sì Shēngshēng” extends warm greetings and best wishes to all Chinese people around the world, hoping for a year filled with health, happiness, and prosperity.
“Sì Shēngshēng” invites everyone to join in the celebration of the Spring Festival Gala, welcoming together a joyful and auspicious Year of the Snake.
