Baofeng Lake is a stunning scenic spot located in Zhangjiajie, China. 2. How to Get There

  • By Air: If you arrive at Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport, you can take a taxi or a shuttle bus to Baofeng Lake. The journey usually takes around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the traffic.
  • By Train: If you reach Zhangjiajie Railway Station, you can then transfer to a local bus or a taxi. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to get to the lake.
  • By Bus: From downtown Zhangjiajie, you can take a bus to Wulingyuan first, which takes about 40 minutes and costs around 12 RMB. Then, it's a short distance to Baofeng Lake from there.

 

3. Tickets and Opening Hours
 

  • Tickets: The entrance fee is 96 RMB per person, which includes a boat ride. There is also an insurance fee of 4 RMB per person4.
  • Opening Hours: The lake is open from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

 

4. Main Attractions

  • Boat Ride: One of the highlights of visiting Baofeng Lake is taking a relaxing boat ride. The 30-minute cruise takes you around the lake, allowing you to enjoy the unique rock formations and the beautiful scenery along the shore. During the ride, you may also encounter two singers in traditional dress singing local tunes from across the lake, giving you a taste of the Tujia ethnic minority's culture.
  • Baofeng Waterfall: At the entrance to the lake, there is a tall waterfall that is a great place to take photos. The water cascades down from a height, creating a magnificent sight.
  • Other Scenic Spots: The scenic area also includes attractions such as Eagle's Nest Village, a line of sky (a narrow passage between two cliffs with only a strip of sky visible), and the Golden Toad Holding the Moon (a natural formation where a mountain peak resembles a toad holding the moon in its mouth during a full moon)4.

 

5. Travel Tips

  • Clothing and Footwear: As there is some walking involved, especially from the ticket window to the lake pier, it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes. The weather in Zhangjiajie can be changeable, so bring appropriate clothing for different weather conditions.
  • Photography: The scenery at Baofeng Lake is extremely photogenic, so don't forget to bring your camera or smartphone. However, be careful when taking photos on the boat to avoid dropping your device into the water.
